  i was wondering.

  not that i have anyone in mind (except for bane).

  what motivates an active and zealous jehovah's witness to come to a website like this one and insult everyone for being apostates, et cetera?

  BANE The Watchtower Society considers members that leave their organization to be apostates. But that is their interpretation of an apostate. An apostatize is someone who abandons their faith.

  To apostatize from Christianity one would have to turn away from the teachings of Christ. Many here have not turned away from the teachings of Christ but from the changing teachings of the Watchtower Society. They defend their faith in Jesus at great length on this forum.

  The founders of your organization, including Russell himself apostatised. Most of Jehovah's witnesses apostatized to join your club. So by definition your organization is an apostate organization made up of people who were disillusioned with their previous religion.

  Your members called at their door and encouraged them to be unsatisfied with their religion and apostatize. 'Religion is snare and a racket.' Remember? Having been sucked in with false promises, is it any wonder they moved on when they found out that your society was no more honest that the religions they previously left?

  i was brought up to reply to a question that i didn't understand, or know the answer to, in a modest, humble manner - true, sometimes it was embarrassing, but if i didn't know the answer, i'd (usually) admit it, and then start trying to find the answer.

  this was time consuming, and required work - sometimes, a lot of research.

  but, it has usually stood me in good stead.

  The Watchtower Society claim to be the answer.

  They have put themselves in the place that Christians reserve for Jesus. Faith in them is the requirement for everlasting life.

  Lack of faith in the organization is considered apostasy.

  i've been reading in search of christian freedom chapter 3 and i'm quite fascinated at ray's take on how the congregation was actually set up in the 1st century.

  i never knew that a "governing body" only convened one time in jerusalem to discuss the circumcision issue, and was not mentioned prior or after this.

  also paul went many years without heading to jerusalem for "instruction" but had the antioch congregation as his home-base.

  Why Trust the Bible?

  there have been numerous posts and threads on jwn about why a rational person should re-think trust in the bible as the inspired and inerrant word of god.

  these are usually based on clear and logical thinking and reasoning.. the wts and other religious entities have published tracts and books to convince people that the bible is indeed the inspired and inerrant word of god.

  these are usually based on circular and fallacious thinking and reasoning.

  is this gods organization?.

  after 50 yrs in, 25 as some type of servant in responsible position, i am beginning to wonder.. .

  to me, gods organization should be exactly what the bible says.

  I can see your slant on things CandleLight.

  The thing is, the bible tells us that anyone who calls on the Lord will be saved. He who exercises faith in Jesus will be saved.

  Now as Monkeyman has spent 50 years sincerely praying for guidance, is to much for him to expect God to guide him?

  terry, since you have long proclaimed your inability to comprehend the greatest expression of love in the universe, substitutionary atonement; perhaps this scene from the last of the mohicans will help you to understand.. the chief has just handed down a death sentence to the brunette daughter of the captured english general.

  the english officer in this scene can speak both english and french.

  since daniel day lewis can only speak mohican and english, and the cheif can only speak huron and french, the captured english officer must translate to the chief in french.

  Some good points have been made on this thread by Terry and Moshe.

  Perry refers to, 'the greatest expression of love in the universe, substitutionary atonement.' But God did not step in and provide a substitute for Adam & Eve. He let them die! Adam & Eve paid the price for their mistake with their own perfect lives.

  If God had provided a substitutionary atonement when it was needed, Adam & Eve could have continued living and produced a perfect human race. That was after all God's plan, according to this quaint bible story.

  Jesus sacrifice was too late to be a substitutionary atonement. Adam & Eve were dead and remain so. Despite the alleged substitutionary atonement of Jesus 4000 years later, people are still suffering and dying today. Even God's spiteful and unnecessary curse of birth pain for women remains. Modern science has helped to offer some relief, not God.

  The present version of the bible, Gods only known written communication with mankind, begins with this implausible scenario and culminates with the book of Revelation. You are OK Perry - God talks to you and has explained it all? Please forgive me for being sceptical.

  Well it's got his name on the box. Perhaps God is made in the same image as mankind and is just as screwed up? The WT organization may be the best he can put together? It has a better history than the Catholic church.

  Perhaps the failings of the WT organization could be due to the fact that it attempts to take the bible literally and follow all the dictates of the God of the bible?

  If the foundation is rotten the house will collapse.

  It takes more faith to believe in something like evolution than it does to have faith in the Bible.

  The leaps and bounds you have to assume to compensate for the lack of a God are more than what you have to accept from the Bible.

  Why 'believe' in either? Can't we just stop guessing and admit that we haven't got a clue.

  We are free then to get on with our lives. No baby. No bathwater. No Holy Water. No Hogwash. It's all so easy...
